Schmidt makes a sturdy, quality line of ukes at affordable prices. I already own their OU6LCE Tenor a/e models, beautiful satin-finished koa-wood with clear tone and attention to details, so when the time came to get a Concert-size a/e, Oscar Schmidt was where I looked first. I'd have liked a satin finish, but the gloss is not too thick or heavy, and with the Super Nylgut (Aquila) strings on it, it sings beautifully.
I've only been playing for four years now. Could be there's a reason why someone would choose a $500 or $5000 uke, and maybe someday I'll be aware of the limits of mine, but that day is not today.
One warning: if you're using the "order it with a case and get a discount" deal, be SURE the case is IN STOCK. Else you'll wait days (weeks?) with little communication, unless YOU take the initiative to write. They don't mean ill. Your stuff WILL arrive. Eventually. They won't put anything extra into the package to make up for the delay, but your stuff will get there.
