It's great for those songs that would sound better if played on a banjo. All our 6-strings feature an arched ebony fingerboard with mother-of pearl inlays and 22 frets and compensated bridges for accurate intonation. One of the most appealing aspects of our 6-string banjos is the fact that our necks are sleek and comfortable - easy to play. The 6-string banjos were used in the early 1900's in some of the jazz bands but they never really caught on because the sound wasn't quite right. We are the only makers today who have mastered the 6-string banjos to bring out a wonderful banjo tone and make the instrument a joy to play. Many guitar players are now discovering the new sound available from playing a Deering 6-string banjo. Anything you play on a guitar can also be played on the 6-string banjo. It can be flat-picked or finger-picked equally well. We string it with extra light acoustic guitar strings, however it does perform well with other string gauges. The sound is excellent!
The B-6, Boston 6-string is lighter in weight. The pot utilizes the same steel rim construction found in our Boston 5-string. In the 6-string banjo this creates excellent note distinction, clarity, and sparkling crispness which makes an ideal recording instrument.
